PURGE BEFORE YOU PACK
An essential step in the moving process to make your transition easier and clutter-free is to purge broken, old, and unwanted items as you pack. Purging now will help you save time and money. If you don’t use it now, you most likely won’t use it at your new place.

PREPARE YOUR MOVING “SURVIVAL KIT”
Before you start packing everything, think about the essentials that you will need in the final days leading up to the move and the first days in your new home. Create a “survival kit” for you move. Include items that will get you through those hectic days like a few towels, a set of sheets, toiletries, toilet paper, a pen and paper, paper plates, plastic utensils, bottled water, and an extra outfit for everyone.

BOX IT UP
Getting your moving supplies can be a daunting task. How do you know how many boxes or how much tape to get? What about packing paper and bubble-wrap?? It’s always a guessing game with these questions, but because we have helped with so many moves this is a guessing game we are getting pretty good at! As a point of reference to help you know what supplies you will need we have compiled a list of supplies we recently used for a family of 3 in a 1250 square foot, two bedroom and two bathroom home. For this job we used two organizers and it took 10 hours to pack up the house.

20 small boxes
20 medium boxes
20 large boxes
6 wardrobe boxes
6 rolls of packing paper
12 rolls of packing tape
2 rolls of bubble wrap
1 roll of shrink wrap

OUR FAVORITE MOVING TRICK
We always like to clearly label each packed box on the top and on all
File Mar 21, 12 10 08 PMsides. We write which room the box belongs to and the contents inside. When you get to your new place, you may not be able to unpack it all in one day, but if you know what is inside each box you can unpack the essential items first. One of our favorite moving tricks is to color-code the boxes for each room in the house by putting a half-sheet of brightly colored paper on top of each box. On moving day, simply post the coordinating color at the doorway of each room so the movers can quickly and easily identify where each box should go. This trick is especially helpful for movers who speak a different language.
